With award winning Chef Derek Willkins behind all of Betty’s creations in the kitchen, Black Betty has mastered the fine art and science of the burger. Everything from the buns, sauces, patties and pasta are made fresh daily in house. Chef Derek has taken the idea of the traditional burger and blended in the quality of fine dining to create an experience like no other.

 

Black Betty Burger and Winebar is located in the historically familiar downtown land mark of the Lougheed block. Its Chicago style commercial architecture clearly represents Calgary’s sense of optimism in the economy prior to world war one and continues to do so to this day. The block is named after Senator James A. Lougheed, a lawyer, landowner and member of Calgary’s business elite who was later knighted.

 

Betty continues to embrace this architecture throughout the interior with ornate woodwork and red leather panels, warm dark red walls, red velvet curtains, and signature 50’s pin up photography of their very own employees. When you step in you are taken back in time to when this space was Calgary’s first lunch, dinner and late night dance spot.

 

However don’t be mistaken…..

Birthday June 7th 1967

7oz Waygu beef patty, smothered in chilli and cheese on a house made brioche bun with lettuce and tomato.

strawberry kiwi

“Strawberry Kiwi Caprioska”

2oz vodka, kiwi simple syrup, fresh mint leaves and strawberries

Muddled, shaken and strained over ice and topped with soda, garnished with a sprig of mint and a slice of strawberry and kiwi.

mint julep

“Mint Julep”

2oz Basil Hayden’s Bourbon Whiskey, simple syrup, mint leaves.

Shaken and strained over hand crushed ice served in a pewter cup with a splash of water, a lemon wheel and sprig of mint.

Menu

Betty enjoys the finer things in life. So we use 100% Waygu beef, mixed with fresh herbs and spices to create our handmade patties. We then top them with local ingredients and pile it on top of our in house baked brioche bun. And instead of “would you like fries with that” we offer so much more.
